Writing effective problem statements

Here are the main guidelines for writing a good problem statement that you can use when exploring existing content:

  • Write your research question. This can work as your title for the search.
  • The tool puts extra weight on the title, so having that, it will represent the core of your research and yield the best results.
  • Make a list of what background you already know around the problem. Real-world applications, past experiments, etc.
  • Make a list of the challenges you anticipate or that others have faced in the past.
  • Explain key terms and abbreviations with 1-2 sentences.
  • Finally, list your follow-up questions and assumptions, things you would like to prove or disprove through your research.
  • Combine the elements into a description in c. 300-500 words in English.
