Analysis filters (concepts and topics)

To use the analysis filters you need to run the analyze tool on a data set. You can choose keywords, concepts and topics for inclusion and exclusion. These keywords, concepts and topics are generated from the actual content of your articles.

Keywords are great, if you know exactly what you are looking for. If you know that, you might as well use a standard search engine to do the job. They won’t let you capture the whole picture but just the specific thing you are looking for.

The concepts are one-word representations of an idea, rather than key words. The machine will include or exclude articles that include the same concept - not the same exact word. Regarding the topics, the tool creates groups of articles within your dataset, and names them with a string of ten concepts that needs to be read in unity. Keep in mind one article can be part of multiple topics as you use them to include or exclude from the list.

To apply these filters, just click on a drop down list and choose the keyword or concept with which you would like to filter your dataset. To exclude, just click on the tag/choice - it will then change color from green to red. (video)

Choose the dataset you want to filter and click on the “Filter” tool on the right side panel. Then scroll down to find “Analysis filters” and click on the “Open Analyze tool” to start word and topic analysis filters generation. It might take a moment so go get some coffee in the meantime. When the generation is done you can go back to “filters” and see that “Analysis filters” have been activated. To use “Word Analysis” filters click on toggle switch to enable it and then you can either choose from the list or write down the concepts you want to include. When you’re done click “Apply”. And here’s a filtered list. To delete all word analysis filters just click “Reset” and click on the toggle switch to disable them. You can do the same with the Topic Analysis filters - click on the toggle switch to activate. Then browse through the list, choose the relevant topics and click “Apply”. And that’s how you filter with Analysis filers!
