Overview of the Analyze tool

With the analysis tools you will quickly get an overview of what your dataset is focused on. It is like a bottom up approach, where you upload an unknown dataset and the tool tells you what is in it. If you are familiar with our previous tool, the Focus tool, you will find a lot of similarities here.

The words, concepts and topic analysis will be available for use within the filter panel.

Let’s look at the Analyze tool.

With the Analyze tool you can get a quick overview of the content of a dataset. It is like a bottom up approach, where you upload an unknown dataset and the tool tells you what is in it.

To use the Analyze tool, you need to select a dataset you want to analyze. You can find the Analyze tool on the right side panel - it’s the second from the top. All you need to do is click on it, and the machine will start the analysis in the background. When the analysis is done, you will receive a notification that the analysis is ready to use - and you can find it in the Filter tool.

The analysis tool will consist of two major components.

Firstly, the tool will do what is called topic modeling: It will group all your articles based on the content of the articles, where each article can be present in multiple groups. The tool will then attempt to label each of these groups, using the main terms the group have in common. This will be shown to you as a string of ten words, that all together identify the group.

Secondly, the tool will identify all main concepts and keywords from the document list. The keywords are the exact words present in the document. The concepts are a representation of a collection of words - an idea or a concept, and not a literal keyword. So by using a concept as an exclusion or inclusion criteria will capture not just the literal word, but a range of words related to that concept.
